For John Dulaney, the shooting sports are more than a hobby—they are a lifelong connection to family and the outdoors. John grew up shooting trap as a family activity most Sundays. Shooting ATA registered shoots and witner league events was a way to develop a strong interest in shotting. John feels that family and friends are important and strong personal relationships can develop and grow as we shoot together. These early experiences instilled in him a deep respect for firearms and the discipline required to be a true outdoorsman. An avid fisherman and dedicated hunter, John remains active in the field throughout the year, pursuing his passion during archery, muzzleloader, and long gun seasons.
This commitment to heritage continued when John began teaching his own sons hunter and gun safety at a young age. His role as a mentor naturally expanded as he became deeply involved in the 4-H club his boys attended in Howard County, Maryland. While teaching shotgun and rifle safety over many years, he recognized a need for a more specialized environment where young shooters could bridge the gap between recreational shooting and high-level competition.
Driven by this vision, John collaborated with a founding board of directors to establish the Patapsco Junior Marksmen (PJM). His goal was to provide youth with the resources to compete within the Amateur Trapshooting Association (ATA) and the Academics, Integrity, Marksmanship (AIM) program. Furthermore, John’s vision extended beyond the trap house; he sought to expose students to the diverse worlds of skeet and sporting clays, with the long-term goal of fielding competitive skeet teams in the near future.
Though John relocated to Hanover, PA in 2021, his heart remains at the range. Known for his patient and positive coaching style, he focuses on the personal growth of every member. By sharing his love for his father’s vintage firearms and the technical nuances of the sport, John continues to inspire the next generation to handle firearms with safety, integrity, and passion.
